At their Tuesday appointment they both seemed to be perking up and doing better so they sent us home to continue treatment. Later that night Rebecca began to throw up after every feeding and was running a very high temp. I watched her through the night and called Wednesday morning to get her back in because she was blue around her mouth, had blue finger tips and was lethargic.
As soon as we got her in on Wednesday the checked her oxygen level...it was only at 72 so they quickly got her on oxygen. The doctor came in and said that they would have to admit her into the hospital. (I had been dreading that all week because Jason is out of town and I didn't know how I would take care of all three kids.)
Once at the hospital they got her iv started, took xrays, and continued with the oxygen and breathing treatments. The doctor came in Wednesday night to say that our overall goal would be to get Rebecca eating on a regular schedule again and off the oxygen before going home.
Thursday she was still not doing well...only eating twice a day and working very hard to breathe.
Friday she was slightly better but her breathing was still very labored and she was eating better but not on her normal schedule. The doctor came in and listened to her Friday night and was worried that her right lung had collapsed or she had pneumonia. They decided they would do some blood work and take more xrays Saturday morning.
~Side note: Dylan had been doing well with his treatments and seemed to be doing well. Friday morning he started running a fever while at a friends that was babysitting the boys for the day. We decided it was best to bring him to Durango to have him see his doctor. I met them at the doctors office where we found out he had an ear infection.
Once Saturday morning rolled around I was ready to get the tests underway, not sure that Becca was though. ;-) Her doctor came in that afternoon to let me know that she was no longer contagious, didn't have any further infections, and didn't have a collapsed lung. However we decided it was best she stay one more night in the hospital just to get her over the recovery hump.
By Sunday morning Rebecca was almost completely back to her normal self. Screaming at me to get my attention, eating on her normal schedule, playing, rolling, and smiling. I felt much better about her going home as did the doctors and nurses so she was discharged. She does have to remain on oxygen until she can bring her stats up on her own. She is only at 1/4 liters oxygen (down from 2 liters when we took her in on Wednesday) and at times she can go as low as 1/16 liters. Her room air stats today are 86. So they predict she won't need the oxygen more than a week. We also have to continue her breathing treatments at home for the next couple weeks.
~Dylan is doing well also. He hasn't ran any fevers since Friday. He does have a cough and runny nose but I think as long as we keep him going on his treatments he will be healthy very very soon.
We still have a couple more weeks of recovery ahead of us for both of these kiddos but they are doing much better than earlier this week. After all of this I'm going to be one exhausted mommy, that's for sure.
I HAVE TO SAY HOW MUCH I TRULY APPRECIATE ALL OF THE HELP AND SUPPORT I HAVE RECEIVED THIS LAST WEEK ESPECIALLY WITH THE BOYS!! I'M ALSO VERY GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE SUPPORT, THOUGHTS, AND PRAYERS THAT HAVE BEEN SENT OUR WAY! WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE SO MANY FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT CARE SO MUCH ABOUT US!!
